Scandalous Historical Photo Blog!

Okay, I know I've been doing a lot of posts lately that are pointing you to other sites, and it's not because I don't want you here. It's because there are so many blogs and sites out there that are really amazing resources.

This one I have to share - it's so awesome, it's left me no choice.

The Vasta Images/Books Blog is all about rare and scandalous photos from the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries. I've never seen anything like it!

They've got things from all over this time period that you should really check out, but I'm going to focus on the stuff that fits in our Gilded Age period.

A lot of these images are just of people doing everyday things, and they are so much more intimate than what you can find in American publications. It really shows how people weren't that different than us at this time period. Or it might show how less conservative people were at this time period in other countries. Did Americans not show such scenes because they would never do such things? Or did all people do the things captured in these images, but Americans just didn't put it out there in the same way? Or was this available in America but in a scandalous, underground kind of way that has been lost in the historiography?

Photos like these are so important for understanding life during this time period for historians and historical fiction writers alike. In addition to each set of photos the blog includes history and information from the publication being featured.

Seriously this is a really awesome resource, so in addition to checking it out, become a subscriber. Give them a shout-out. Bloggers love comments.

I know I do ... hint, hint. Digital Winky Face ; )
